1 July 2009 - New guide to air travel rights

The General Consumer Council has published a guide around rights for disabled people and others with reduced mobility when travelling by air.  Under European Regulation it is illegal for airline, tour operators and travel agents to refuse a booking on the grounds of disability or reduced mobility.  The Regulation also places a duty on airports to provide minimum levels of assistance to disabled people and others with reduced mobility to help access air travel.

The Guide provides step by step information around what should be provided from booking a flight, assistance at the airport, services on board the plane and assistance at the destination airport.  The Guide also provides information on what to do if things go wrong.  The Consumer Council is the body in Northern Ireland designated to handle passengers complaints around the Regulation.
