New regulations have been introduced today which apply aspects of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)to providers of transport services.
When the DDA was passed in 1995 transport providers where exempt from the goods, facilities and services provisions of the act under any issues relating to the use of transport vehicles. Other services provided by transport providers such as information and infrastructure where covered by the orginal Act.
Todays changes seek to addresss this situation by removing aspects of the exemption from transport providers. The Equality Commission are responsible for promoting and encforcing the changes. Full details of the changes involved, including a short guide for disabled people, is available via the following weblink:
Imtac very much welcomes the introduction of the new Regulations and we look forward to working with disabled people and transport providers to ensure they deliver real benefits for all.
