Baywatch says parking abuse still too high
The abuse of parking bays reserved for disabled people is still greater in Northern Ireland than in Great Britain. This is the major finding of the second survey undertaken by the Baywatch Campaign which seeks to end the abuse of accessible parking bays.
"The level of abuse of accessible parking in Northern Ireland is still too high" said spokesperson for Baywatch, Ann Collins. "The survey shows a drop in the level of abuse from 2006 which is very welcome. However, 21% of bays here are still abused at any time - a statistic that many people will find unacceptable".
Almost 250 surveys were completed by volunteers in October. Participants inlcuded people from 23 local council areas as well as a number of MLA's. "We would like to thank everyone who took part in the survey and in particular our local representatives" said Ann Collins. "We hope their participation will raise awareness of an issue that causes disabled people great difficulty on a daily basis".
