27 August 2008 - Imtac views new bus

Imtac members Norma Moore, Henry Mayne and Elizabeth Black

Imtac members recently visited Ballymena to view a new accessible bus designed to be used in rural areas.  Translink commissioned the bus after extensive consultation with Imtac.  The bus is designed to meet the requirements of disabled passengers and older passengers offering low-level access, priority seating, access for one wheelchair user, slip resistant surfaces, handrails and colour contrasting throughout.  At the same time the design takes into account the difficulties of operating low-floor vehicles in rural areas and the need for additional capacity when carrying school children.

Imtac would like to congratulate Translink on developing a unique and inclusive design and believes the bus to be an example to everyone on how disabled people and older people can work with providers to develop more accessible services.
